Terry Wayne Fator was born in 1965 in Dallas, Texas. He is a ventriloquist, impressionist, stand-up comedian, and singer.

He developed an interest in ventriloquism from a young age and sang well into his teenage years. His ventriloquism career can be traced back to when he was in the fifth grade after he discovered a book on ventriloquism. Soon after, he bought a Willie Talk dummy and started to learn the art. In a couple of weeks, he won a prize at a church picnic and earned $25.

Especially, his ability to impersonate singers and movie actors, made his family and friends love his shoes. His mother saved money for three years and bought him his first puppet when he was at the age of 18.

After he grew up, Fator began performing with two bands, but after a while, he decided to just perform alone, combining ventriloquism with comedy.

Fator made his debut in the entertainment industry in 1993, when he was performing as a ventriloquist for the first time at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, California.  He went on winning the second season of America’s Got Talent.

His success led to him receiving a five-year multi-million dollar contract to headline shows in Las Vegas. Today, Terry Wayne Fator is constantly ranked among the world’s highest-paid comedians. Fator is also one of the highest-paid entertainers in Las Vegas every year.

Terry Fator went to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia before embarking on a career as a comedian.

Fator’s career began touring the US cities as a lead singer of the band Freedom Jam between 1987 and 1988. At the time the band used to visit schools on their tours and perform to the students.

Later he left the band and began to develop his solo act. His acts were funny to the audience but he often struggled to find his audience. He often performed in theaters with few audiences, sometimes as low as one. Fator had the support of his family.

Fator became famous in June of 2007 after he performed on America’s Got Talent. His ventriloquism was the main focus of his act and the audience and judges were surprised when he won the show.

After winning the show, Fator had to turn down appearances on the “Late Show with David Letterman” 14 times before he could finally schedule an appearance as his schedule had become so busy after the win.

Not only did he play at the Las Vegas Hilton, where Elvis Presley once performed, but he also played to sell-out crowds back to back. A couple of months later, he signed a contract with the hotel to do three shows per month between January and May of 2008.

He appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and impressed the audience and Oprah with his renditions of songs by Marvin Gaye and the Beegees.

The biggest show on earth finally came to town. The Mirage was a great venue for a show that’s worth $100 million.

Fator had signed a five-year $100 million contract to perform at The Mirage in Las Vegas. Later the show was canceled following the coronavirus outbreak. This was a great opportunity and one of the largest comedy deals in history.

The pandemic seems to have affected the Terry Factor’s net worth as some of his shows were canceled, and he lost some portion of his salary.

In 2020, he returned to his work for a show named “Who’s the Dummy Now?” in the Liberty Loft theater space of New York.
